Tenant Based Rental Assistance (TBRA)
What is TBRA?
KCEOC together with Kentucky Housing Corporation (KHC) has funding available through a grant for Tenant Based Rental Assistance (TBRA). The program is designed to assist low-income households to secure a place to live for themselves and their families through assistance with security and utility deposits, and monthly utility and rental assistance.
What can TBRA do for me?
TBRA can assist households needing to securing housing, especially homeless households.
Is the funding guaranteed?
No. Funding is on a first-come, first serve basis.
How long will it take?
Once the application and all third-party verifications and landlord documents are returned, TBRA can be approved within 10 days of the application.
Can TBRA help me pay utility deposits if the landlord is not requiring a security deposit?
No. If the landlord is not requiring a deposit OR if you have already paid the deposit OR made arrangements with the landlord concerning the deposit, TBRA cannot pay utility deposits to have utilities turned on.
Is there a limit on how much rental security deposit TBRA can pay?
Yes. Landlord cannot charge MORE than two month’s rent for the deposit. The deposit MUST be equal to or less than the monthly rent.
Can I get assistance with utility deposits?
Yes. Utility deposit assistance may be available IF: Landlord is requiring deposit, applicant does not have existing account /deposit with the utility company, and the applicant does not owe an outstanding balance to the utility company.
