Mission of Safe Sitter®

Provide life skills, safety skills, and child care training to all youth in order to build safer communities.

Safe Sitter® is designed to prepare students in grades 6th-8th to be safe when they’re home alone, watching younger siblings, or babysitting. The instructor-led class is filled with fun games and role-playing exercises. Students even use manikins to practice rescue skills like choking rescue and CPR. Students, young children, and parents will benefit the most from the Safe Sitter® course training.

During the class students will learn:

  • Safety Skills: Indoor safety, outdoor safety, online safety, and personal safety.

  • Child Care Skills: Child development, child care routines (including diapering practice), and behavior management.

  • First Aid & Rescue Skills: Injury prevention, injury management, and choking rescue. CPR is an optional component.

  • Life & Business Skills: Screening jobs, setting fees, and greeting employers.

This will properly prepare the student to provide care for young children, siblings, and family members. Parents will have more peace of mind knowing that their child and/or babysitter has the skills necessary to properly care for their child and address any emergencies that may occur.
