Senior Centers provide a broad range of group/individual activities and services to respond to the needs, interests of older adults and their families in its community. Senior Centers serve as a “focal point” for all the programs available to older adults within Knox county.
Programs and services:
Congregate Meals: A program for Seniors 60 and older in which they visit the center at 130 Harding Street in Barbourville to receive socialization, networking, nutrition education, information/referral services and a hot meal during lunch. Lunch is served from 11:30 am till Noon. Seniors are encouraged to come to the center at 9:00 am and stay until 2pm each day to enjoy the center and the services provided. Congregate Meal Transportation: Transportation is provided to and from the center for the congregate meal program for attendee’s. Seniors who want to be transported should call the center from 8:00 am – 8:30 am at 606-546-5191. Transportation to and from the center is free.
Homecare Services: The program is for eligible seniors who are 60 and over and have been screened through the Aging Disability Resource Center and deemed eligible to receive in-home services. Services include dusting, sweeping, mopping, laundry services, grocery shopping, transportation, vacuuming and heavy cleaning as needed. Home Delivered Meals: The program is for eligible seniors who are 60 and over and have been screened through the Aging Disability Resource Center and deemed eligible to receive home delivered meals. This program provides home delivered meals and nutrition education to seniors. To apply, contact the Aging and Disability Resource Center at 606-877-5763.
Personal Care Services: The program is for eligible seniors who are 60 and over and have been screened through the Aging Disability Resource Center and deemed eligible to receive in-home services. Personal care services include assisting with non medical services such as bed making, bathing, exercising and shampooing, shaving, dressing, toileting and walking.
