Emily Bright- Out of School Youth

Emily Bright met with Career Advisor, Ali Hill, in September 2017. As a young unemployed mother, Emily was seeking assistance with increasing her employment related skills and securing steady employment. After determining her eligibility for the Out of School Youth Program, Emily was enrolled into the program by her career advisor, Ali Hill.

Emily then completed assessments including a TABE test to determine math and reading skills (administered by KCEOC partner Knox County Adult Education), along with an interest inventory assessment to determine what careers Emily would be most interested in and suited for. These results were reviewed with Emily, and she also completed a Work Readiness Training (Ethics SENSE) course offered at the KCEOC KY Career Center Jobsight.

Emily was then placed

in the Work Experience service of the Out of School Youth Program and interviewed with Alva Patterson Trucking for a position as a receptionist. She was offered and accepted the work experience placement and began subsidized employment through the program in September 2017. Through this work placement Emily would learn clerical skills, and general employment best practices / skills, while KCEOC assisted with the wage and workers compensation costs. During her 16 weeks of participation in the work program, Emily continued to meet with Ali Hill at least once monthly for career guidance and advising. In mid-January 2018 Emily successfully completed her work experience placement.

The skills and experience she received through the program gave her the knowledge and confidence needed to pursue employment outside of the program. One month later, February 2018, Emily began a full-time position at Baptist Health as a Medical Records Clerk, where she continues to be employed.
