Starting Monday January 9th, KCEOC CAP will start accepting applications for the new Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) Crisis Component. Applications will be accepted January 9th through March 31st , 2023 or until designated funds are depleted.
Applications are provided on a first-come, first-serve basis.
The Crisis Component can assist households, up to and including 130 percent of the federal poverty guidelines, who are experiencing a heating crisis. Applicants must provide at least one of the following: a disconnect/past due notice, disconnection notice, or an eviction notice for non-payment of rent.
Benefits offered through the Crisis component are limited to the minimum to alleviate the crisis not to exceed $400. Households can reapply each time they experience a crisis until they have reached their maximum benefit limit.
Basic Eligibility Requirements:
All applicants will be required to supply the following documentation at the time of
application:
Proof of Social Security Number or Permanent Residence card (Green Card) for each member of the household.
Proof of all household’s (all members) income from the preceding month.
Most current utility service bill (electric, natural gas, propane), including account number and name on account, statement from your landlord if utility service expenses are included in your rent, statement from utility company if you participate in a Pre-Pay Program.
Clients who use unmetered or solid fuels such as propane cylinders, coal, kerosene or wood are required to provide a zero balance receipt or to provide verification that they have less than 4 days of heating fuel left.
